Wilderness landscape photography of a triangular-shaped stand of aspen in Winter with pine and mountain in the background
FIRST PLACE – National Wildlife Federation, Landscapes and Plants category, Pro Division 2009
Winter in Yellowstone National Park is mysterious, rigorous, unpredictable and serene. If you stay aware, it will suddenly render up transcendent scenes such as this one. Their leaves having fallen months before, this unusually regular triangle of aspens creates a strikingly geometric composition, ascending from a sharp snowy horizon and framed by distant evergreens and snow-covered foothills in the overcast Winter light of the Lamar Valley.
