Wildlife photography of a Black Bear and a Bald Eagle encounter on a mossy boulder with forest behind

A mossy granite boulder in rich arboreal rainforest sets the stage for an unlikely standoff between a Black Bear and a Bald Eagle deep in Alaska’s Anan Wildlife Observatory. Such encounters sometimes in unexpected ways. On this day the eagle, who was there first, refused to yield to the bear and prevailed when the bear ambled off, unwilling to engage. Anan Creek has one of the largest pink salmon runs in Southeast Alaska, attracting Brown Bears, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals and other wildlife.
