Wildlife photography of a Coastal Brown Bear cub playing on a sandy beach in Alaska’s Katmai National Park

In Katmai National Park, a Spring Coastal Brown Bear cub plays in the sand while mother fishes for salmon nearby. Coastal Browns feed primarily on salmon, and because of this rich source of protein, they’ve evolved into one of the largest of the Brown Bears. In the long Alaskan Winters, they hibernate as do most bears, with the females not even waking to give birth.
