A Sandhill Crane in bathed in the rich golden glow of sunrise with the full moon setting in the blue sky beyond over Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. Sandhills are migratory, and the refuge is the Southern wintering grounds for many of them from late October to Mid-February. While most are silvery or grayish-white, many birds have a rusty color from preening in iron-rich soils.
