Wildlife photography of preening American Avocets reflected perfectly in water near Antelope Island in Utah’s Great Salt Lake

A small flock of American Avocets are stunningly reflected in the perfectly calm waters of a golden morning near Antelope Island in Utah’s Great Salt Lake. This vast, briny and almost lifeless lake is all that remains of a once massive freshwater inland sea called Lake Bonneville, that retreated below its outlet at the end of the last ice age. The Island has become a precious haven for many bird, mammal and reptilian species surrounded by conditions so inhospitable to life.
