Wings against the Ice by Cindy Goeddel
Wildlife photography of an iceberg in the Antarctica ocean with a single Imperial Shag flying above the waves.
A lone Imperial Shag braves the windswept skies, dwarfed by the monumental beauty of a towering blue iceberg in the tumultuous Southern Ocean. This fine art photograph captures the raw, untamed forces of nature and the resilience of life thriving at the bottom of the world. The brilliant shades of blue in the iceberg, caused by compacted ice absorbing longer wavelengths of light, contrast sharply with the windswept waves below. Imperial Shags, known for their striking black-and-white plumage, are exceptional divers, capable of plunging up to 150 meters to hunt for fish.
