Wildlife photography of a bobcat with a mallard duck kill captured from the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park
With temperatures hovering around zero degrees Fahrenheit, the sun has finally broken through an overcast day to illuminate a bobcat carrying away a Mallard drake it dove in and caught from the Madison River in the chill of a Yellowstone Winter. For five hours with snow falling most of the time, this cat hid, stalked, and patiently watched for the opportune moment. Finally, launching from his hiding place, this truthful story of harsh Winter survival ended happily for one, fatally for another.
