Wildlife photography of Giraffe head with a Red-billed Oxpecker perched on its face

Giraffes may spend between 15-20 hours per day feeding. Their towering size provide them with access to food that all other browsers can only dream about. Giraffes use their lips and incredibly long, prehensile tongue to pull twigs into their mouth and then shred the leaves off.  Oxpeckers by comparison, are adapted for grooming fleas, ticks, lice, and other parasites from large mammals. They have bills that can cut through fur and strong feet by which they hold on tight.
