Wildlife photography of a small bachelor herd of bull elk moving through Winter forest in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park

In the heavy snows of mid-Winter, a bachelor herd of five bull elk make their way through the deep silence along the forest edge in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park. Mature Bull Elk spend the Winter with other bulls, carrying their heavy antlers through to Spring, shedding them in March. Superbly adapted to the cold climates of the northern hemisphere, ungulates often travel single file in deep snows to conserve energy.
