The African Wild Dog (African Painted Dog) is Africa’s most endangered large carnivore. There are only about 3,500-5,000 painted dogs left in the wild. They are social, intelligent and form loyal, tight bonds among packmates.   Wild dogs can be thought of as Africa’s “wolf”, and just like wolves, in the past they were killed by authorities, even in conservation areas as they were falsely thought to be an excessive killer of game animals. Presently, just like wolves, they are in conflict with those who raise livestock for a living. They have lost valuable habitat due agriculture and human expansion.  Wild dogs are the size of a German Shepard, with black muzzles, white-tipped tails and beautiful spotted coats that are unique to each individual.  Photographing these magnificent animals in their natural habitats is an unforgettable experience.
