Surprise!

As impossible as it is for us to see anything but a great big, surprised, laughing smile, this white Long-Tailed Weasel is actually yawning as it peeks from behind a lodgepole pine in Yellowstone National Park. Interestingly, changing daylight hours trigger hormonal reactions causing the pelts of some very specialized animals like the ptarmigan, the snowshoe rabbit, and this weasel to change color with the seasons, providing incredibly effective camouflage from predators. This little guy will need to be careful until the snow flies though, as he stands out terribly and is an easy meal for a bird of prey.
