In the bristly main of a giraffe in Kruger National Park, a Red-Billed Oxpecker has made a high-rise rest stop. This colorful character has established a happy, almost symbiotic relationship with the mammals of the African savannah as they stand still, allowing the bird to eat the ticks and flies that relentlessly torment them. The Oxpecker holds up its end of the bargain very well, and one was found to have eaten over 250 adult and 1,400 larval ticks.
